Surging Demand for Compostable Beauty Packaging Fuels REearthable’s Asia Strategy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seattle, WA [August 21, 2025] Rising demand for sustainable beauty packaging in Asia is driving REearthable, LLC, developer of ecoPLAS®, to expand its presence in South Korea and China. To lead this growth, the company has appointed Shanbo Zhang to its Advisory Board, where he will leverage his cross-border expertise to connect REearthable with leading beauty brands, packaging manufacturers, compounders and distributors in both markets.

South Korea’s cosmetic packaging market is valued at over USD 2.3 billion and is projected to reach USD 3.3 billion by 2035. Asia Pacific held 43 percent of the USD 36.2 billion global personal care packaging market in 2024, making it the largest and fastest growing region, a market shift that aligns with REearthable’s positioning.

ecoPLAS is a third-party verified compostable and biodegradable material that replaces polypropylene in applications such as injection molded beauty jars, compacts, personal care containers, and trending stick formats, including mono-material packaging. Made with CO₂-captured limestone, it cuts CO₂ emissions by 38 percent, reduces energy use by 24 percent and uses less material than conventional plastics.

“South Korea and China represent over USD 85 billion in beauty sales, with consumers driving the demand for sustainable packaging,” said Charlotte Wintermann, Founder and CEO of REearthable. “Because ecoPLAS can be produced globally with flexible ingredient sourcing, Shanbo’s cross-border expertise is vital to helping brands adapt quickly to shifting tariffs.”

“I am honored to join REearthable’s Advisory Board at this pivotal moment,” said Zhang. “Beauty brands in South Korea and China are at the forefront of sustainable innovation, and ecoPLAS provides a ready solution that meets performance needs while delivering real environmental benefits.”

The appointment reflects REearthable’s commitment to partnering with global beauty leaders to accelerate the shift away from conventional plastics and toward sustainable, high-performance alternatives.
